Medical professionals to discuss circumcision on Twitter

UPDATE: Many activists on both sides of the argument have taken to using the #circumchat hashtag. We welcome their opinions, but we will attempt to curate physician-focused opinions in our list of highlights from the chat below. Please see the tweets below to quickly catch up on the chat. We look forward to your participation.

Sister publications Urology Times and Contemporary Pediatrics are organizing a joint event through which professionals in urology and pediatrics can weigh in on potential issues regarding the controversy over circumcision. Recent pieces from both publications regarding circumcision have sparked quite a bit of conversation on the ModernMedicine website. A recent article in Urology Times, AACU: Circumcision controversy could hike urologists' liability premiums, rose awareness of potential issues for urologists regarding circumcision. And recent news items on the topic have appeared in Contemporary Pediatrics: AAP endorses elective newborn circumcision of boys and CDC soon to issue draft guidance on male circumcision, for example.

We'd like to continue the discussion on Twitter. We will be hosting a chat on Twitter starting on Thursday, November 1, 2012 until Tuesday, November 6, 2012. We will be using the #circumchat as our hashtag on Twitter to track and to post to the conversation.

We'd love to hear your positions, comments, questions, and concerns on issues regarding medical professionals and circumcision. Please do so on Twitter by tweeting with the #circumchat hashtag or reply directly below. We will be occasionally posting highlights from comments posted here on the website to the #circumchat hashtag on Twitter.

And please follow both Urology Times (@UrologyTimes) and Contemporary Pediatrics (@ContemPeds) on Twitter to keep up with the conversation. And see below for some of the highlights from the #circumchat (will be updated frequently).
